Master bedroom makeover

Here we go, its that time again! I am working on the One Room Challenge Fall 2020 bedroom makeover. I am participating in my second One Room Challenge. This time I have chosen to redo our Master Bedroom or, sorry, the Primary Bedroom because everbody needs a retreat to go where they love it. Here is the final reveal of my last One Room Challenge

First a little background on the One Room Challenge. This biannual challenge in the Spring and Fall is for 20 featured designers to design a room and blog about the process. You can read all the One Room Challenge blogs here. The One Room Challenge was started by Linda Weinstein and was for designers to do their homes one room at a time. This is the eighteenth season. I am part of the 300 plus guest participants. The sponsors are Better Homes and Gardens and High Point Market.

Last year my husband and I moved into a beautiful home that certainly needed our touches to be the way we want it. As my husband says the only way he is moving again is if he goes feet first! We decided we might as well make it just the fabulous way we (ok I) want it!

THE CHALLENGE

Our bedroom has beautiful brown carpet and everything is painted taupe. Yes i am being sarcastic. Yes I am embarrassed that I have been living like a slob.

We have a large master bedroom with a high trey ceiling that is full of vents and smoke alarm.

We currently have a queen size bed and 2 tables for nightstands that are beautiful but I have too much stuff on them. I definitely need storage. We also want a king size bed. I am thinking that maybe I should reorganize my closet while I am doing the master bedroom. .

You would think that moving twice in 3 years and from a very small house to a much larger house that I would not have too much stuff.

I don’t like the fan in the room but I am not sure that I am ready to give it up for a beautiful light fixture.

The furniture

Did I mention that I had furniture for staging but when I decided to stop doing vacant staging, I brought a lot of the stuff home with me. I sold a few pieces and kept some. Our bed was one of the items I kept, as well as the round tables next to the bed.

The bed is too plain for me and the nightstands impractical for my mess.

Additional challenges

Right now it is very difficult to get any custom furniture made without having to wait 3 or more months. When I started to work on my plan, I realized that I had to find somebody who could make a me a bed and work swiftly, and I did!!!

My heroes

The heroes in my bedroom redo are Kristin Drohan from Kristin Drohan Collection who agreed to have the bed delivered to me by November 1st. Also Design Legacy had fabric printed for me and shipped out within a week after I explained that time was of the essence.

Here are some before pictures

On the picture on the right I had already tried out a new paint color

Here are the ideas I am starting with

What’s happening this week?

I have already ordered my custom bed from Kristin Drohan Collection. The bedroom will be painted this week and I am out scouting for Asian cabinets to use as nightstands. I am so excited about getting a beautiful bedroom. I already have my fabric for the curtains and they are being made right now.
