How to add life to your home with eclectic art.
I have a love for all things handmade and inspired whether it is from the USA or any other country. I think it is incredible to add something such as folk art or ethnic anything into any setting because it adds life to your rooms. Buying art is a challenge and always in the eye of the beholder. I always believe that is in our best interests to expand our horizons and think further than our borders. I was recently in a restaurant in South African and was stunned at the beautiful integration of things ethnic. Materials were changed but the idea remained.
Add Interest to The Ceiling
This was a restaurant in Johannesburg. I was fascinated by this interesting ceiling. It is made of plastic or vinyl woven into that beautiful ethnic pattern placed next to a wooden ceiling.
That was not all that intrigued me.
Add Excitement to Walls with Art
I loved the art on the wall. This restaurant is known for encouraging local artists. Here is a picture of a very large painting from the restaurant. It is a beautiful and a totally African image. Notice how it is hung above some Moroccan cement tiles because the combination is so visually stunning.
South Africa has lots of examples of beautiful colored artwork. Below is the picture of a basket woven out of telephone wire. This might soon be a lost art since the use for telephone wire is decreasing rapidly which means so would the production of the wire.
The art of making animals out of wire and beads originally came from Zimbabwe. Working with wire is mostly done by men as it takes strength to bend the wire and make the shapes.
Combine elements
Another African element that has crept into many a wonderful design is this Juju hat or headdress used by the Bameleke tribe in ceremonies. It is mostly made out of dyed chicken feathers. Here it is displayed with beaded wooden pieces. These pieces come in different sizes and colours and can be combined or hung by themselves.
I do receive a small affiliate commission if you purchase these juju hats.
Think outside the basket
I am a lover of color but it is possible to use any of these examples above in neutral tones too.
Order a group of these baskets
Lining up these neutral baskets has created a beautiful interesting textured wall. The baskets are highlighted because they are on a dark background.
