Have you often wondered how to create a neutral pallet without sticking to beige or grey? I for one do not like anything in those two “colors” (neither is a color to me). I have had clients who have used only 1 grey in many watered down versions in their house. For me it was not my best work, although I enjoyed designing the kitchen. . I think grey is dull and boring and beige is too close to brown for me.

I prefer a little color at the beach so that you can always feel as if you are somewhere else! If you are afraid to paint your walls a color you can always paint white and I mean white not cream or off-white. You can add colors in other items such has I did here. Fortunately my client here is a world traveler and brought back these wonderful posters from Cuba.

Living in a Beach Town has put to use my more creative talents as far as doing color but making it look neutral.

I love a soft greenish color such as this Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. For me it is not strong enough to be a true color but strong enough to give a beachy feel. This color goes from green to blue depending on the light. It creates a feeling of peace and tranquility. This is by far my favorite beach house color because of its complexity.

I once had a client who wanted everything in her Mediterranean house on the beach to be painted brown. She was thinking East Coast writing retreat. I was thinking beach house on the Gulf. It took a while but I convinced her that using light colors with beachy undertones would make her house so much more enjoyable. For all the main living spaces we chose Behr Clam Chower
